Background

Sara Harrison Woodfield, AIA. Architect, is the owner of Harrison Woodfield Architects, Inc. With an extensive background in education, architecture and travel, combined with advanced computer skills, she has, since 1991, built a successful architectural practice in the premium wine country of California. For several years she was on the board of the northern California (Redwood Empire) chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was the president in 1997. For eight years she has been on the architectural design review committee of the premier estate development in Sonoma County and for several years was a leader in CityVision, an AIA supported program to improve downtown Santa Rosa. Every year, she tries to travel abroad once, to widen an already comprehensive understanding of architecture.

Her firm is founded on two principles: to work with clients to draw out, understand and develop their ideas and style; and to marry the building to its site. The site is the starting point of any design – either urban or rural – and it is our determination to complement that site aesthetically with appropriate structures, while getting the most out of views, natural features, solar orientation, weather patterns and so on. We make a special effort to use sustainable methods and materials wherever possible.
